According to a person familiar with the situation, safety Aaron Rouse may not be around when the 2009 season opens in September. And even if the former Virginia Tech star manages to hang on to his roster spot for a third season, don’t expect to see much of him on defense. “Rouse doesn’t tackle well enough to play close to the line of scrimmage and he lacks the instincts and the fluidity to be consistent in pass coverage,” opined a scout for another team. “I see him as nothing more than a decent backup safety with the potential to be a pretty good special teams player.” We're guessing that GM Ted Thompson expected more when he used a third round pick on Rouse back in 2007.
